Stern singers bring light and hope into the heart of children's rights
On January 7, 2025, the Sternsinger are on the road in the Rhein-Lahn district to draw attention to the rights of children in less favored countries. In Bad Ems they visited District Administrator Jörg Denninghoff on the island of Silberau. There the Sternsinger blessed the district house, disguised as three kings and with the song "Stern over Bethlehem". They also presented a blessing that underlined the message of their action.
This year's motto of the star singers is "raise your voice". District Administrator Jörg Denninghoff was impressed by the commitment of the young people and thanked him warmly. As a sign of recognition, he presented the star singers a small gift.
worldwide children's rights in focus
The Sternsinger campaign 2025 pursues the goal of promoting the strengthening and enforcement of children's rights worldwide. In addition to the 1989 UN Convention on the Rights of Children, which sets basic rights for children, the current challenges are at the center of the campaign. Around 250 million children, especially girls, do not go to school, while 160 million have to work under often exploitial conditions. In addition, over 43 million children and young people are on the run.
The Sternsinger partner organizations are committed to disadvantaged children worldwide. In Turkana, Kenya, the Sankt Paul community offers health care, nutritional security and schools. In Colombia, Benposta supports children and young people who have experienced violence or neglect. Through the collection of donations, the Dreikönigssingen campaign actively contributes to the support of aid projects in around a hundred countries.
