Friedrich Bröhm: Lahnstein celebrates an extraordinary man of century!

Friedrich Bröhm celebrated his 100th birthday in Lahnstein on May 4, 2025. The jubilee looks back on an eventful life that is characterized by numerous challenges. Mayor Johannes Lauer delivered the congratulations from Mayor Lennart Siefert, District Administrator Jörg Denninghoff and Prime Minister Alexander Schweitzer. Lauer also presented a gift basket with fairly traded products and a cash present for the Rhein-Lahn district.

Friedrich Bröhm was born in Workuta, Russia in 1925. He was moved into the Red Army at a young age and fought against German troops in World War II. His captivity by German armed forces after his surrender led to a deeply drastic part of his life. After the end of the war he returned to Russia, but was convicted there as a "traitor" and spent almost twenty years in a Soviet prison camp.

After his discharge from captivity, Bröhm worked as a bricklayer. This activity shaped his years of life until 1996 when he moved to Germany as part of the late repatriat program. His first stay was in Lahnstein, but in the early 2000s he moved to the Rhein-Lahn-Eck. There he found a new home and feels comfortable. Regular visits to his daughter and son -in -law bring him joy and support.
