New police growth: 135 contenders start their career in Diez!

On May 11, 2025, the solemn swearing -in of 135 new police officers from the federal police took place in Diez. The ceremony, which was held in the gymnasium of the Federal Police Affair and Training Center, attracted numerous members of the trainees who were able to experience the solemn act up close.

The new candidates moved in under the sounds of the well-known TV series "Das A-Team" and thus joined the physical and ideal community of the federal police. During the event, the importance of empathy and a clear compass in the police profession was emphasized, which underlines the focus of the training.

Just a day before, on Saturday, a much larger swearing ceremony was held in Bamberg. Almost 700 police officers from various federal states took their oath on the cathedral square. Almost 300 of them come from Bavaria, while the remaining candidates come from other regions of Germany. Around 4,000 spectators, including family members and friends, accompanied this important day. The ceremony followed an ecumenical service in the Bamberg Cathedral.

At this event it was emphasized that every third candidate is a woman. The candidates are on average 21 years old and started training in the middle police enforcement service in September 2022 or March 2023, which has a duration of two and a half years.

The training for prospective police officers is multifaceted and extends over different areas. Consultants in the upper service deal with law, psychology, politics as well as deployment and leadership. The application leads to a three -year degree of diploma at the federal university for public administration, where theoretical and practical phases alternate.

After completing the training, the graduates are appointed police commissioners and bear the title Diplom administration host (FH). The basic course takes place at the University of Applied Sciences in Brühl near Bonn, while the modular studies for the upscale police enforcement service in Lübeck will continue. In addition to the teaching activity by professors, police officers from the higher service are also involved in the training.

career opportunities for the graduates are diverse: they are available in the investigative service, in the control and patrol service or in leadership roles. There are also training opportunities for the management of a service group or an operational train. With the appropriate suitability and additional qualifications, you can also switch to the flight service, the Federal Police Lake or the GSG 9 special unit.
