Discover nature: ZW-Network invites you to exciting events!

On January 10, 2025, the climate protection and sustainability initiative Zw-Netztauf with a new annual motto will compete: "Wild Worlds". This initiative, which has been active in Zweibrücken for five years, is planning numerous events to invite citizens to discover nature in their area. With the motto for 2023, which focused on "water", a step towards sensitized handling of natural resources has already been taken. The first event in the new year takes place on January 18 and includes a hike in the Hengstbach Forest, led by Theo Ringeisen. Interested parties can meet at 10 a.m. at the Kugelfanghütte car park.

The annual program also provides for a variety of activities. A garbage collection campaign started in February, followed by building a lizard house in March on a orchard. In April, a climate walk through Zweibrücken (led by Anne-Lorraine Ring) invites you, while in May the sustainability day takes place in the city library. The months of June to December are filled with a wild herb cooking course, the inspection of natural gardens, a market breakfast on Alexanderplatz, children's events on the bee world, a night hike for families, a lecture on sustainability by Dieter Wallach and an exhibition of childhood. Registration is required for some events; Further details can be found on the initiative's website ( Rheinpfalz ).

political commitment of the youth

In parallel to these events, the political commitment of young people who are increasingly interested in environmental and climate protection is growing. A current analysis shows that many young people are willing to actively contribute. However, you need knowledge about decision -making processes and skills in order to be able to participate effectively. Despite the existing educational programs, political engagement often remains underrepresented. According to environmental formation.de , the demand for a greater linking of education for sustainable development and political education

The Alliance for Sustainability (Anu) has therefore launched various workshops to promote political action among young people. These educational measures include practical examples of political engagement and the mediation of decision -making processes. From July 2022 to June 2024, eight workshops have already taken place, and an extensive learning material set will be developed that will be accessible to multipliers and young people. The success of these programs will also be reflected in phase 2 of the project, which will take by the end of 2025.

The need for education for sustainable development

Sustainable change in society is urgently necessary to respect the planetary limits. Education for sustainable development (BNE) plays a central role here. It promotes ecological awareness and the skills of critically consuming and understanding the relationships between social, economic and ecological dimensions. The German Federal Environment (DBU) launched a funding initiative in 2022 to support projects that link the ESN and political education with each other. These include the development of new educational formats that promote dialogue on sustainability issues and enable active participation in decision -making processes.

In this context, Jun.-Prof. Dr. Steve Kenner launched a DBU-funded project that is intended to promote interdisciplinary exchange for political issues in political education for sustainable development. The projects aim to reproduce and sensitize skilled workers and young people in the field of political education and sustainable commitment.
