Public transport revolution in the southern Palatinate: bus lines are comprehensively adapted!

From Monday, February 3, 2025, the timetables of several bus lines will be adjusted in the southern Palatinate. These measures aim to improve the offer in local public transport (public transport) and at the same time achieve savings. The district councilors Dietmar Seefeldt (southern Weinstraße) and Martin Brandl (Germersheim) emphasize the importance of sustainability and CO2 reduction in the context of these changes. According to information from Rheinpfalz Saving the district Southern Wine Route annually around 200,000 euros due to prudent timetable changes.

Little used journeys will be reduced in the future so that resources can be used more efficiently. These savings are part of a larger plan that is to be invested in the further expansion of public transport. In addition, the transport infrastructure in the region is considered efficient, which enables it to continuously expand and adapt public transport.

Details on the timetable changes

Below the most important changes in detail:

  • line 547: The connection between Niedertotterbach and Bad Bergzabern is discontinued. In the future, the line will only run between Kandel and Niedertotterbach, whereby there are isolated trips for pupils. • Ruftaxi line 5946: This is now also on school days, not only on holidays, and receives additional stops in Bad Bergzabern and Hergersweiler.
  • line 540: The departure from the Central Station Landau will be forwarded to 5.12 a.m. to 5.02 a.m., and the departure from Bad Bergzabern is also preferred by 5 minutes.

The new departure and arrival times are available via the timetable information at www.vrn.de and in the MyVRN-APP.

focus on sustainable mobility

The South Palatinate is a region in the sign of sustainable mobility, which is underlined by the continuous improvement of public transport. The well-developed public transport network is a valuable alternative to individual traffic. All municipalities in the South Palatinate are striving to promote sustainable commuting and thus rely on better clocks and closer stop networks. However, these developments also require the overcoming of challenges, such as the expansion of cycling connection networks.

This is also shown in the engineering performance behind the new mobility concepts that strengthen inner -city and national bicycle traffic and solid foot traffic concepts. It is still worth investing in sustainable solutions for the region. In Rhineland-Palatinate, for example, it is massively invested in the expansion of the bicycle traffic infrastructure in order to further expand multimodal mobility options such as bus, train, bike, car, car sharing and rental bike. These initiatives are associated with the global goal of the CO2 reduction by the public transport company, which saves around 10 million tons of carbon dioxide annually, as reported by Vdv
