Cash supply in the South Palatinate: Banks cooperate for customers!

On Friday, January 31, an outstanding cooperation between the VR Bank Südpfalz and Sparkasse Südpfalz was presented. This cooperation aims to significantly expand the service offer of the two institutes and to improve cash access in the region. Customers of both banks can now use ATMs of the other institute without external bank fees.

The functions offered on the ATMs include cash withdrawal, the deposit of the bill money and the account status query. In addition, joint, sprinkle robust pavilions are set up in Bornheim and Hagenbach, which offer modern security technology. These pavilions, made from reinforced concrete, carry the logos of both banks and are intended to further improve the supply of cash.

a future -oriented service concept

Another step of this cooperation is the common “Sisy” location in Birkweiler, which is located in the parking lot of an EDEKA market and serves as a service interactively system. Those responsible have already announced that further joint locations should be put into operation in the coming weeks. District Administrator Dietmar Seefeldt has also expressed itself positively about this cooperation and emphasized that the initiative is considered unique in the Federal Republic.

Svend Larsen from the Sparkasse Südpfalz and Christoph Ochs from VR Bank Südpfalz emphasized the importance of customer needs and underlined that this cooperation offers the citizens of the region a dense network of cash supply. This is particularly important at a time when the trend towards digital payment methods increases and many people long for stable access to classic cash services.

cash supply in an international context

In the further context of cash supply, it should be mentioned that many countries have legal regulations on dealing with cash. These regulations often show gaps that are not compatible with modern payment systems. In particular, the EU and other states are working to legally strengthen the “right to cash”. In 2023, Slovakia changed its constitution to grant the right to pay cash. In Norway, a law came into force in May 2024 that is intended to strengthen existing rights to pay.

Even in Sweden, there has been legal pressure since 2021 to offer cash services by banks. These efforts, also underlined by the Swedish central bank, are a reaction to the growing concerns about cyber attacks and possible exclusion of certain population groups, such as older people who are less familiar with digital payment systems. Such developments are not limited to Europe; Companies that rejected cash payments were also fined in China.

In summary, it can be said that the cooperation between VR Bank Südpfalz and Sparkasse Südpfalz is not only an example of regional cooperation in the financial sector, but also remains relevant in the global context, where the topic of cash supply is becoming increasingly important.
