Wire trap on the farm path: walkers alerted police!

Wire trap on the farm path: walkers alerted police!
Unknown perpetrators stretched a wire about a business route in Birkweiler last weekend. The wire was about 1 meter high and was discovered by attentive walkers who luckily removed him before it was serious. The Landau police are an urgent warning and is particularly aimed at cyclists and walkers who frequent the paths in the "Daschberg/Keschdebusch" area. It is important to be particularly careful in this region, since such dangerous cases can significantly increase the risk of injuries. Witnesses who made suspicious observations last weekend are asked to report to pilandau@polizei.rlp.de on 06341-287-0 or by email to support investigations. These occurrences fuel worrying thoughts about the safety of pedestrians and cyclists, especially in remote or less frequented areas.
Similar incidents throw a lightly on safety in cycling. In another case in Neukirchen an der Enknach, in the Braunau district, cyclists were endangered by a wire that a 47-year-old hunter had stretched over a forest path. This obstacle about one millimeter thick and four meters long was attached between two trees at a height of 1.70 meters. A 36-year-old cyclist discovered the trap on May 8 and filed a complaint with the police. In the event of an impact, the risk of a serious accident would have been enormous because the wire would not have loosened. The hunter felt disturbed in his hunting exercise by cycling and moped drivers and thus justified his action. These incidents are part of a worrying trend that questions the safety of cyclists in rural and urban areas.
consequences for cyclists and measures for security
The reporting on such incidents is accompanied by the fact that the German traffic safety council e.V. indicates the urgent need for measures to improve security for cyclists. The number of cyclists killed has not changed since 2010, while the number of seriously injured cyclists has remained almost constant since 2001. Every eighth killed and every fifth injured on German roads is a cyclist. In view of the fact that the number of injured pedelec users has increased significantly in recent years, experts demand extensive security measures.
This includes a better infrastructure, especially at intersections and confluence, and the improvement of the safety standards for bicycles. It is also discussed to introduce a helmet carrier obligation for cyclists. The number of unreported bicycle accidents could be up to 70%. This clarifies that many injuries are not documented and therefore there is no comprehensive image of the dangers.
In view of these alarming statistics and incidents, it becomes clear that both preventive and reactive measures are urgently necessary to ensure the safety of cyclists and other road users. The police warn for caution and appeals to everyone who uses bike paths and nature trails.Details | |
