Amazon closes Zweibrück's camp: 200 jobs in danger!

Amazon stopped operating in his distribution center near Zweibrücken on January 8, 2025. This means that around 200 employees lose their jobs. The hall has been used temporarily since the end of 2024 to relieve the logistics centers in the region and was only completed in October 2023. This decision was planned from the start, since Amazon intended to end the company after the Christmas business anyway. The employees concerned, many of them, had the opportunity to go to the hall with free buses from Zweibrücken and Pirmasens and received the Germany ticket.

The temporary distribution center appeared to cope with the logistics requirements in other centers in Frankenthal, Kaiserslautern and Koblenz. These centers store packages from a large part of Germany, including the area between Stuttgart and Munich, which then have to be transported further. In connection with the closure of the Zweibrück location, however, it remains uncertain whether Amazon will return to the hall in the future.

future prospects

While Amazon has temporarily stopped activities in Zweibrücken, a new logistics center for Mercedes-Benz is also being built in the Rastatt district, which is due to go into operation in the second quarter of 2025 and will create 500 jobs. This makes it clear that, despite the closure of the Amazon location, new opportunities and challenges are being created in the region.

The closure brings some challenges for the employees whose employment contracts were limited. Amazon's commitment to social responsibility is known because the company provides donations in kind and money and maintains cooperation with non-profit institutions. Over 36,000 permanent employees are employed in Germany, many of them in the logistics sector. You benefit from a competitive remuneration package, which includes an increase in the entry wage and various additional services that also apply to seasonal employees.

The company also emphasizes the integration of diversity and promoting a respectful corporate culture. Regular employee campaigns and health management programs support a positive working environment, while Amazon continues to expand in the logistics sector in Germany. The clear strategy shows that despite the closure in Zweibrücken, the company remains determined to break new ground in logistics.
