Konz and Trier: Cycle paths become smart and safe for commuters!
In the city of Konz, there are currently comprehensive improvements to the cycling infrastructure. The asphalt was renewed on the Mosel cycle path between the Konz-Karthaus and Trier, and there are still remaining work on this section of the route. The installation of a smart lighting is planned, which automatically switches on when the bike path is used. This step aims to lower energy consumption and reduce light pollution. This not only increases the safety of cyclists, but also the comfort on the popular bike routes [Wochenspiegellive.de reports that ...].
In addition, Berlin pillows are installed on further sections of the commuter wheel route, such as Konstantinstrasse. These structural measures are intended to give car traffic brakes and cyclists priority. The traffic routing on Wiltinger Strasse is also adjusted so that cyclists can drive the one -way street in both directions.
secured cycle paths and storage facilities
For the safe use of the Brienon Bridge, new, higher railings were installed on the sister Marcellina-Weg. Cyclists are now also entitled to drive on the pedestrian path at walking speed. The city of Konz has also installed new bicycle parking facilities at highly frequented points, such as sports fields, town houses and playgrounds. Repair stations for bicycles have been set up in Onsdorf and Oberbillig to offer cyclists additional service.
Mayor Joachim Weber emphasizes the importance of improvements for bicycle friendliness and the attractiveness of cycling. In the coming months and years, further investments in the expansion of the cycling infrastructure are planned. These measures are part of the 2019 cycling concept, which was developed with the participation of the citizens. The widening of the cycle path along the Saar is realized as part of the construction work in Saarstrasse, together with the plan to install three new charging stations for e-bikes [lbm.rlp.de reports that ...].
commuter cycling routes in Rhineland-Palatinate
In Rhineland-Palatinate, commuters cycling routes (PrR) are developed in seven corridors to further strengthen cycling. This is done in community cooperation between the country and the municipalities. A first step in this process is the creation of a feasibility study (MBS), which describes the feasibility of the commuter cycling routes and serves as the basis for future work. According to the MBS, a cross-regional cooperation of all project partners will be necessary to determine a preferred road in the PRR standard [Rule_4_plain reports that ...].
The commuter cycling routes will be continuous, cross-free and well signposted. The state of Rhineland-Palatinate finances 80% of the feasibility studies to support the project sponsors, the municipalities, in their work. The quality and surface of the routes are defined in the "Standards for commuter cycling routes in Rhineland-Palatinate", which are currently being revised. The responsibility for planning, construction and maintenance of the cycling routes lies with the respective project providers, whereby the state company offers mobility (LBM) advisory support [lbm.rlp.de reports that ...].
