Young researchers from Trier shine at the regional competition!
On February 27, 2025, the 60th youth research regional competition Trier took place at the Trier University of Applied Sciences. Under the motto "Malance of questions", over 50 participants presented their innovative research projects in seven different fields. This competition is not only a platform for young researchers, but also an expression of the great commitment of the Trier University of Applied Sciences for the promotion of scientific talents.
The impressive performance of the participants from Trier and the district of Trier-Saarburg are particularly noteworthy. Mira Schlitt and Felia Bölles from the Humboldt Gymnasium won the first prize in the biology category with their project "Symbiotic World of Kombucha". Elias Koetz from the Max Planck Gymnasium received an award for his investigation on the "Influence of Nile Gans on the Mattheiser Weiher ecosystem". In the mathematics/computer science category, the first prize went to Angelika Rieger from the Angela-Merici-Gymnasium for their work on mathematical algorithms to calculate the number of districts PI. Florian Lellig from the Balthasar-Neumann Technology Trier was awarded a second prize in this category for his analysis on the influence of social media on mental health.successes from the district of Trier-Saarburg
In the district of Trier-Saarburg, some projects also stand out. Jacob Brossette from the Saarburg grammar school was awarded the second prize for his research on the holographic surface analysis. Justus Hüther from Reinsfeld, also from the Balthasar Neumann Technic Trier, took second place in technology with its flexible sensor module system for drone integration.
An important aspect of competition is to promote young scientists. The Trier University of Applied Sciences, which has been closely linked to the competition for many years, actively supports the young researchers with an accompanying program for practical research. Prof. Dr. Dorit Schumann, President of the University, emphasized the importance of the connection between school, science and business in the development of the curiosity of young people.

The participants, which were first placed in the competition, also qualified for the state competitions in Ingelheim and Ludwigshafen. Successful participants there have the chance to compete in the federal final in Hamburg. Frank Natus from Natus GmbH & Co.
