Temporary play streets in Trier: promote fun and neighborhood!
The city of Trier has further expanded its initiative for creating temporary play streets. These projects, which have successfully brought together children, families and neighborhoods since 2020, are very popular. So far, around 70 play streets have been realized in seven districts at twelve locations. The positive response from the residents and the support from the different districts have now led to the decision to further expand the offer. This reports Lokalo.de .
At a networking meeting in the town hall, to which Mayor Elvira Garbes as well as representatives of the youth welfare office and the road traffic authority had invited, the success of the years so far was recognized and new plans for the coming season were discussed. The game streets have already established themselves well in districts such as Trier-West, Mariahof and Ehrang/Quint. These roads offer a free way for children to playfully use public space, while adults are given the chance to exchange ideas. The organization of these actions is supported by the "Impulse Trier - City in Motion" project, which works closely with the local advisory boards.
Planning and implementation of the game streets
The temporary play streets are blocked for road traffic at certain times, creating a safe space for children in which they can play safely. This initiative not only promotes movement outdoors, but also social cohesion in the neighborhoods. Committed people from social institutions and the communities of residents who contribute to the success of the actions play a significant role. According to trier.de , the planning and coordination of the game streets is the task of the youth welfare office and the road traffic authority, supported by the local district representatives.
Several promotions are planned for the 2024 season. For example, five game locations will be active in Ehrang/Quint from April to September. Actions will also take place in Mariahof and Neu-Kürzen. The first playground in Mariahof will be organized on June 18 in Reichenspergerstraße, while for Trier-Nord the street Am Zurlaubener Ufer will be closed on September 29. Car travelers are asked to remove their vehicles before starting the game campaigns to ensure the safety of the children.
expansion of the initiative and international cooperation
With regard to the year 2025, the city is examining new locations for temporary play streets, including Trier-Nord and Filsch. Interested actors who are interested in the establishment of new play streets are invited to report and actively participate in the upcoming actions. In addition, cross -border cooperation with guests from Luxembourg also shows interest in the Trier Initiative, which serves a future exchange. This represents a step towards in -depth national cooperation, as is also required by the "Temporary Gaming Streets" alliance. The aim of this initiative is to again establish streets as a residence and meeting place for children without the need for extensive structural measures. This concept is particularly characterized by its cost efficiency and resource conservation, since it does not require extensive conversions, as dkhw.de
The city of Trier would like to continue to set an example by creating space for playful activities and helps to strengthen the neighborhood.
