VW plans electric revolution: New models from 2027 in Wolfsburg!
Volkswagen outlined his future strategy for the coming years at a company meeting in Wolfsburg. The focus is on developments in the area of electromobility, in particular the introduction of a small, cheap electric vehicle that is to be launched under the name ID.1 in 2027. This step is part of a comprehensive plan to align production in Wolfsburg to the new generation of compact electro vehicles. The production of the VW Golf will be relocated to Mexico in the future to make room for these new models. With the new Scalable Systems Platform (SSP) should be completely digital and scalable.
The SSP, which was announced as part of Volkswagen's “New Auto” strategy in July 2021, aims to develop a uniform platform for battery-electric vehicles (BEV) across all brands of the Volkswagen Group. This platform should not only replace the existing MEB and PPE platforms, but also the internal combustion engine platforms from Volkswagen. A trademark of this development is a common platform with different modules that enable a variety of vehicle variants without unnecessary increasing production complexity.
outlook on ID.1 and other electric vehicles
The fully electric entry -level model ID.1 will be presented in March 2027 and is expected to be offered at a base price of around CHF 20,000. In addition, there will be a fully electric golf successor and an electric T-Roc that are also based on the SSP platform. Volkswagen plans to produce more than half a million vehicles in Mother's plant annually from 2026 and also offer an electric model in the B segment from around 25,000 francs.
The ID.2all, a show car, already gives a first insight into the upcoming small car offer, which is based on a new evolutionary level of the modular electrical kit (MEB). This initiative is part of a larger goal of Volkswagen to generate at least 70% of sales in Europe by 2030 with purely electrical vehicles, in the USA and China it should be over 50%.
sustainability and infrastructure
The focus on electromobility is part of a comprehensive sustainability strategy that goes beyond the development of emission -free vehicles. Volkswagen relies on a more environmentally friendly design of the entire production chain and is working intensively on improving the charging infrastructure. Cooperation with governments and partners plays an important role in achieving these goals. In the coming years, Volkswagen is planning to build thousands of charging stations in Europe, the USA and China.
In addition, Volkswagen is investing in the development of solid batteries, which are intended to offer higher energy density and shorter loading times. A wide range of electric vehicles has already been available, with over 500,000 ID vehicles have been delivered worldwide since the introduction of ID.3 in 2020. VW also offers solutions for shopping at home, including Elli Charger 2.
The development of autonomous driving systems is also of great importance. Volkswagen plans to offer the first models with this technology from 2025 and present a wide range of autonomous vehicles by 2030 to help shape the mobility of the future.Details | |
