In Dernbach there was a fire today that affected two neighboring carports. The fire brigade was alerted to prevent the flames from spreading to adjacent houses. Another site was in Schmöckwitz, Berlin, where a car was to catch fire in a carport at night. As the BZ , the fire brigade was alerted at 2:41 a.m. after a 70-year-old neighbor chose the emergency call. Five fire trucks, a turntable ladder and two ambulances were sent to the scene.

The fire affected a VW whose owner tried in vain to save the vehicle. The flames quickly spread to the carport that was under the car. Despite the rapid action of the fire brigade, the house facade of a nearby residential building could be damaged. A person had to be hospitalized with suspected flue gas poisoning.

The investigation into the cause of the fire is led by the fire department of the Berlin State Criminal Police Office. Near the fire location, a 25-year-old suspect was arrested, which is located in the hospital due to an exceptional psychological situation. The fire brigade ended around 5:30 a.m. after the flames could be brought under control.
