Labor market report: Stagnating unemployment in the Westerwaldkreis!

In the district of the Montabaur Employment Agency, the unemployment rate in February 2025 remains stable at 4.3 percent. This emerges from the current press release of the agency, in which head Elmar Wagner reports on the developments on the labor market. A total of 7,856 people in the agency district are registered without employment, which means a slight increase in 28 people compared to the previous month. Compared to the previous year there is a noticeable increase of 560 unemployed people.

The regional differences are clear. In the Rhein-Lahn district there was a slight decline in unemployment, while unemployment in the Westerwaldkreis is increasing by 69 people and is now at 4,740. Also in 2024 there was an increase of 309 people. The unemployment rate in the Westerwald district is still 4.0 percent, while the Rhein-Lahn district has a rate of 4.7 percent.

spring revival of the labor markets

Despite the stable unemployment rate, those responsible report on the first signs of a spring revival. In February, fewer people reported unemployed than in January, and more job seekers could be placed in new jobs. This is documented by 193 new job offers in the regional job market, which are particularly recorded in the areas of processing business and trade.

However, there are also dark sides: jobs are still lost in industry and in the construction industry. The shortage of skilled workers remains a central topic, especially in the areas of care, education, logistics and trade. Despite the new job offers, many companies are still looking for suitable workers to fill their open positions.

comparison to previous months and years

The employment situation is still robust. In May 2023, 408 job offers from companies were registered, a decline of 11 positions compared to April. If you take a look at the training market, there are more apprenticeships than applicants: 1,933 apprenticeships were offered, but 846 young people are still looking for a teaching place.

The labor market situation in the agency district remains complex and complex. The current spring revival could lead to stabilization, but there are challenges such as the continuing shortage of skilled workers and falling job offers in certain sectors. The agency will continue to observe the developments carefully.
