Honorful Review: Hermann Lenz celebrates unique life trip

Hermann Lenz, an outstanding personality of poultry breeding from Neunkirchen, celebrated his 80th birthday in December 2024. Lenz, who was born in Neunkirchen in 1944, is the wearer of the silver badge of honor of the municipality of Neunkirchen since 2020 and looks back on a remarkable professional life. He grew up with chickens, rabbits and warts and learned the job of the toolmaker at Schmitthelm. He was honored as a caretaker early on and was deputy manager before he went into independence after the company was closed and specialized in wire processing.

His entrepreneurial success was shown in the production of exhibition cages for small animal breeders, which gave him orders from Germany, Switzerland, France, Belgium, Sweden and the Netherlands as well as wire products for the auto industry and large supermarket chain. From 1997 Lenz was committed to the national breed of breeding breeders as chairman of the Badischer Breeders' Association and organized the national breed poultry show in Sinsheim in 2002 and the German pigeon show with around 30,000 animals each. After 14 years of successful work, he was appointed honorary chairman in 2011.

Hermann Lenz was also actively in the Neunkirchen small animal breeding association, where he contributed significantly to the expansion of the “Hasenstall” restaurant and to build a water poultry breeding system. He also planned a larger hall for special shows with the consent of the then mayor Richard Wagner. In 1994 he was appointed Honorary of the Federation of German pedigree breeders for his services and received the state medal in gold from the state of Baden-Württemberg in 2011. Even after his active time, he examined as a poultry price judge on large and European showers until 2023.

In another area of poultry breeding, the 41st Altmühl Jura Show recently took place in Workerszell, which with 770 visitors achieved a record result. The Eichstätt and the surrounding poultry breeding association organized the show, in which 484 animals were presented, the highest number in the past 15 years. Sebastian Ruppert, chairman of the association, was pleased with the success and increasing popularity of breeding breeds. The exhibition took place in the Heiei's stone courtyard and offered a lively atmosphere with animals that gave noise such as Kikeriki, Gackern, Quaken, Snapping and Turray.

The official opening took place on Sunday morning, with the third district administrator Sven John (SPD) representing the patron district administrator Alexander Anetsberger (CSU) and expressed his thanks. The second mayor of Schernfeld, Maximilian Nieberle (FW), brought the greetings from the community. On Sunday afternoon, the state parliament member Tanja Schorer-Dremel and district councilor Reinhard Eichiner (both CSU) visited the show. For the little visitors there was an exploration sheet with questions about the animals, in which the winners from Workerszell, Mühlheim, Eitensheim, Gaimersheim, Schrobenhausen and Röttenbach came.
