Maypole festival in Neunkirchen: A successful spring party for everyone!
On April 30, 2025, the Neunkircheners celebrated this year's maypole festival in the best weather. The event is an integral part of the tradition in the region, which is expected with a lot of enthusiasm by the residents. The splendidly decorated maypole was traditionally brought to the church square by the Bavaria Music Association and solemnly set up. After the installation, the participants marched to the Neunkirchen community house, where the celebrations were continued.
The following morning, at 7:00 a.m., a wake -up call by the musicians caused a happy start to May. The musicians received refreshment during their way and were warmly welcomed by Neunkircheners who waved or clapped from their windows. The 2nd chairman Thomas Huber then invited the chapel into his garden to a cozy white sausage breakfast, coffee and cake.
the may festival in Goldach
Another highlight in spring is the traditional may festival, which is organized annually by the Goldacher Buam. This takes place in the old host in Goldach, a district of Hallbergmoos in the Freising district. The main attraction of the may festival is the bandl dance around the maypole. In this folk dance, which is carried out with long, colorful ribbons, young men and women appear in groups. The aim is to produce different patterns on the trunk of the maypole.
The bandl dance is a living customs in the Bavarian and Alpine culture, which welcomes spring and at the same time symbolizes fertility. During the dance, the ligaments that are tied to the tree are used to create different figures. Accompanying march music from a music band present creates the right mood. The festival is enriched with measurements with measurement mugs.
traditions around the maypole
The maypole itself is often decorated with colorful crepe ribbons, fabric bums or hearts. In order to ensure that the tree decorations do not fade when it rains, waterproof male strap is recommended. Usually it is a peeled fir that is decorated at the top or decorated with the coat of arms of the community. Another custom states that maypoles have to be guarded in the Main night to prevent theft by neighboring villages.
An interesting aspect is that women can also set up the maypole for their loved one in the leap year. In certain regions, repeated setting up the tree can even be interpreted as a marriage proposal. The maypole traditions vary greatly from place to place, whereby in some areas there are also "shame trees" of disappointed lovers who are often decorated with toilet paper or black crepe tape.
After May, the maypole is finally broken down. This can be celebrated by the mother with a kiss from the recipient, beer and cake. The tradition around the maypole and the festivals associated with it reflect the cultural diversity and the sense of community, which is of great importance for many residents. Mainuathlon also took place in Miltenberg on May 4th, where sporty athletes fought for the bet in sunny weather.
On May 10, 2025, the all -rounders fair will take place in the Hofgarten Kleinheubach, which will present the craft and again contributes to enrichment of regional culture.
