Courage and resistance: Exhibition is reminiscent of Saarländer against the Nazi regime

In the Kult.-Kulturzentrum Neunkirchen, the exhibition "Stories of Courage and Resistance-Saarlanders against the Nazi regime" is currently taking place. This presentation, which runs until January 24th, is reminiscent of 15 biographies of people who actively opposed National Socialism. The exhibition is not only an appreciation of individual heroic deeds, but also part of a greater commemoration of two historical anniversaries.

January 13th marked the 90th anniversary of the so -called "Saar vote", which took place in 1935 and is considered a decisive moment in the history of the Saarland. At the same time, the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz extermination camp will be committed on January 27th. For the forum spokeswoman Brunhilde Jerrenrup, this commemoration day is of crucial importance to keep the memory of the terrible crimes of National Socialism awake.

The Saar vote and its consequences

The Saar vote took place in the context of the emerging National Socialism. In 1933, the right parties formed in Saarland for the so -called "German Front", which acted under the leadership of the NSDAP. This political movement was financially supported by the German Reich in order to achieve a high vote for the return of the Saarland to Germany. Propaganda Minister Joseph Goebbels influenced the choice with the slogan "German is the Saar, always!". Despite warnings by German emigrants and the political left in the region, 90.5 percent of the approximately 540,000 voters voted for returning to Germany.

On March 1, 1935, the newly created Gau Saarland under Gauleiter Josef Bürckel followed. This connection was celebrated as a great success for Adolf Hitler. However, former citizens decided to flee; It is estimated that around 8,000 people left the Saar area due to initiated persecution measures.

The crimes of National Socialism

The Nazi regime is responsible for the death of a total of 60 million people in World War II, which reveals the cruel dimension of his injustice. The crimes included the systematic annihilation of six million Jews and the persecution of political opponents and various minorities. The examples of this are numerous, such as the construction of concentration camps. Auschwitz, one of the best known, was opened in occupied Poland near Oświęcim in 1940.

From 1940 to 1945, at least 1.1 million people were murdered there, with more than 90 percent of the victims being Jewish. These cruel deeds are not only a historical fact, but also warn today's generations. The day of the liberation of Auschwitz on January 27, 1945 has been a symbolic meaning for memory of the victims of the Holocaust.

The knowledge -rich exhibition in Neunkirchen not only offers insights into the history of resistance, but also addresses the immense responsibility of society to draw the teachings from the past and to stand up against anti -Semitism and extremism. The memories of the victims of National Socialism should always remain present to prevent intolerant and authoritarian thinking.
