New wind at the AHS Neunkirchen: Youngest director with big plans!

Gerhard Ruhs took over the management of the Neunkirchner Gymnasium on December 1, 2024. The 42-year-old, who himself graduated from this school in 2000, is considered the youngest director in the history of the AHS Neunkirchen. Ruhs succeeded Susanne Casanova-Mürkl and previously worked as its deputy. In his colleague, he meets familiar faces, including Christine Lohninger, his former class leader from 1992. The interim director, Sandra Humhal, will return to her previous position, since the line is now firmly in Ruh's hands.

The structural state of the school has already been a central topic in the past. In order to meet the challenges, the tender for the renovation and expansion of the school location in connection with the HAK Neunkirchen was published on December 10, 2024. The architectural competition, which is advertised across the EU, is currently underway, and the decision will be made by June 2025 at the latest. With the expansion, 1,000 pupils and 100 teachers can be accommodated in the future, since the school is expanded to a total of 36 classes: 24 for lower levels and 12 for the upper level.

planned innovations

As part of these extensions, new special teaching rooms for subjects such as chemistry, physics and works as well as a third gymnasium are also planned. The school's kitchen part is housed in the newly built building, which will also offer a ballroom that can be used jointly with the HAK. Ruhs intends a closer cooperation with the HAK, but sees no direct interfaces between the two schools.

In the coming years, the AHS Neunkirchen will be affected by a wave of retirement. Several teachers have already announced their retreat from professional life. At the end of the school year there are two retirement, while some teachers go to a sabbatical before starting their pension.

Ruhs already has clear ideas for the future and expressed the desire to promote a culture of the critical argument among the students. His long -term vision requires commitment and close cooperation with the school community to address the challenges of the coming years. This could be related to the ongoing developments in the Austrian education sector, which are analyzed in the national education report 2024. This report, which is published every three years, gives insights into different aspects of school and education and could provide important impulses for Ruh's time.

The national educational report, which appears in its sixth edition in 2024 and is published by bmbwf , comprises comprehensive school quality reports and education indicators that are important for future -oriented school development. This information could be helpful for Ruhs to address the upcoming structural and structural challenges.

Gerhard Ruhs is about an exciting and challenging time at the head of the Neunkirchner Gymnasium, and the school community can be excited to see how the plans can be implemented into reality.
