Westerburger Naturerbe: Excursion for animal and plant lovers!
In the Westerburg region, an important nature of the nature, an excursion will take place on May 18, 2025, which focuses on domestic flora and fauna. This special event will begin at 8 a.m. at the entrance of the former barracks Westerburg, located in Reinhold-Ferger-Straße. The excursion is headed by graduate geographer Markus Kunz, the biotope supervisor of the Westerwald district, which will give valuable insights into the natural environment with its expertise. All participants are asked to bring weatherproof clothing and binoculars to optimally enjoy the animal observations and exploration of the different habitats.
The goal of the excursion is to observe the animal inhabitants of the region and to learn more about the diverse flora. Especially in spring, the nature is shown by its most beautiful side, with a variety of meadow flowers such as Knöterich, Hahnenfuß and devil claws. The observable animals include wild bees, grasshoppers, hay horses, butterflies, skylarks and lignite. It is interesting that the stocks of the meadow birds, such as the lignite, have decreased in recent years. Therefore, conservation measures are urgently required, which are carried out in cooperation with local farmers as part of the contract nature conservation.
