The focus of the crimes: Westerwaldkreis and Rhein-Lahn-Kreis in the focus!
In 2024, the Montabaur police department reported a decline in crimes in the region. A total of 13,326 crimes were registered, which represents a decrease of 3.2 % compared to the previous year. The decline in crimes against life by astonishing 42.9 %is particularly remarkable, with only four cases recorded. Nevertheless, raw crimes and crimes against personal freedom recorded an increase of 12.6 % to a total of 3,145 cases, with assault offense 61 % of these offenses. This shows that some types of offenses have decreased, but other areas are still worrying.
The Westerwaldkreis reported 8,847 crimes, while 4,479 crimes were recorded in the Rhein-Lahn district. The clearance rate in the region is 62.8 %, which means that 9,083 cases have been informed. This is reflected in the frequency number, which is 4,312, which indicates the likelihood of becoming the victim of a crime. The number of suspected suspects amounted to 6,939, including 1,051 people under the age of 21
changes in crime statistics
A more comprehensive consideration of national crime statistics shows that in 2023 the crimes recorded rose by 5.5 %, which means growth to 5,940,667 cases. These figures have been the highest since 2016. Three central factors have been identified as the causes of the increase: the increased mobility after the covid 19 restrictions, economic loads and a high immigration rate to Germany. The police crime statistics (PKS) only records end -processing crimes without taking into account the number of unreported cases, i.e. those crimes that do not become aware of the police.
The PKS also shows that the clearance rate in 2023 was 58.4 % and thus increased by 1.1 percentage points compared to 2022. In addition, 214,099 cases of violent crime were recorded, which has been the biggest status since 2007. The number of suspected children under the age of 14 increased by 12 %, while an increase in young people was 9.5 %.
drug crime in focus
An important aspect is the decline in drug crime in Montabaur by 25.6 % to 986 cases. Among other things, this decline could be attributed to the partialization of cannabis in April 2024. In the nationwide statistics, however, drug offenses rose by 1.8 %, with offenses in particular showing an increase of 29.1 % in connection with cocaine and crack. In 2023, about 43 tons of cocaine in Germany were secured.
The challenges in the field of crime statistics are increasingly being complex. The BUND of German Criminal Office (BDK) emphasizes that the PKS is only the cases recorded, which does not necessarily reflect the entire crime situation. This raises the question to what extent politics and judiciary can react to the structural deficits in law enforcement. One approach could be the creation of a "common entrance point" for the faster processing of simple crimes.
The development in Montabaur ultimately reflects part of the large image of the German crime situation. While some offenses go back, the problem remains in other areas, which indicates the need for further efforts in prevention and law enforcement. The exact causes and the quality of the police work remain decisive factors for future crime development.
