BASF is negotiating the location for: what does the employees expect?

Currently BASF has negotiations with the works council on a new location agreement for the plant in Ludwigshafen. The aim of these conversations is to avoid operational dismissals and at the same time to modernize the location. These negotiations are an important step to create an agreement that supports the “target image” of the new BASF strategy, which provides for savings of around one billion euros by the end of 2026. However, these savings are accompanied by the reduction of hundreds of jobs, which underlines the need for intensive discussions with the employee representative.

The currently valid location agreement, which excludes operational terminations, runs by the end of the year. Positive experiences with the existing regulation have shown that it made it possible to make necessary changes in the location. The works council is based on the negotiations on previous agreements that contain a minimum term of five years and protective mechanisms for employees.
