Timo Port wins gold at winter throwing championships in Halle!

On February 17, 2025, Timo Port triumphed from SV Go! Saar 05 at the German Winter throwing championships in Halle/Saale. In the youth U20 youth, he prevailed under cool temperatures that were just over zero and secured the title in the hammer throw. Port, which was already a German U20 champion last year, showed a strong performance, even if he initially fought with his throws.

in the pre -fight Port started with a width of 66.35 meters, which initially brought him to the top of the rating, but was significantly below his own expectations. Despite two weak attempts, the young athlete could not be discouraged. A crucial conversation with his trainer, Christoph Sahner, helped him calm his nerves and implement new strategies.

technical increases in competition

In the further course of the competition, Port continued to increase. After an invalid fourth attempt, which was very frustrating for him, he succeeded in a width of 67.66 meters in the fifth attempt. In the final round, he surprisingly threw his six-kilo hammer to 69.01 meters and thus strengthened his first place. The distance to the second -placed Matti Hummel from the Uac Kulmbach was 4.06 meters, the best width of which is 64.95 meters. Port stated after the competition that he had set a 70-meter mark as the goal, but he was satisfied with the result under the given cool conditions.

The winter throwing championships not only included the U20, but also the categories of the active and the U18. Timo Ports success is the result of hard work and good preparation. His trainer, Christoph Sahner, and the entire training group were praised for their achievements.

other participants and results

In addition to ports outstanding appearance, other young athletes from the hammer throwing group also took part. Amelie Lambert from SV Go! Saar 05 achieved tenth place in the female youth U20 with a width of 43.02 meters, despite two invalid attempts. In the male competition of the U18, Manuel Bernabeu Walz also took tenth place with 50.47 meters. It should be noted that Walz had previously increased its personal best to 54.09 meters in Merzig. Noah Bohn from LC Rehlingen was able to reach the 14th place in the U18 with 45.24 meters.

The performance of Timo Port and his colleagues underline the potential and future prospects for hammer throwing in the region. The optimistic outlook for the coming season, supported by a dedicated team of coaches, gives hope for further successes.
