Course for doctors: Learn French for better patient communication!

As part of the “French and more” project at the Saar University, an important survey in the health sector was recently carried out in order to better understand the needs of employees in the medical sector. The results of this survey show a high desire for language training, especially for communication via medical facts. As a result, a specific course was developed that focuses on speaking about symptoms, medication and treatments. This initiative is provided by the VHS Landesverband and has already led to the establishment of a second course due to the great demand.

A total of 31 nursing and medical specialists took part in these courses. Barbara Schönenberger, a nurse of the clinic on the Winterberg in Saarbrücken, expressed her satisfaction with the course, which specifically teaches medical terms, while grammatical aspects were deliberately put into the background. The VHS Landes Association, Ulrike Heidenreich, underlined the importance of communication in the mother tongue in order to create a basis of trust between the medical specialists and their patients.

future offers and financing

The state government has co -financed this course as part of the so -called France strategy and is planning a number of other offers in the future. From summer there should be additional course formats, including basic and advanced courses and tandem courses. This offer will be discussed in more detail as part of the program "Region on midday" on February 5, 2025 on SR 3 Saarlandwelle.

Extensive topics are covered from human anatomy to medical fields to medicines and hygiene articles. In addition, the trainer contains useful phrases for examinations and office hours.

This online solution enables flexible learning over a period of ten years without installation. The course is designed to optimally prepare specialists for the challenges in healthcare, as well as the language courses offered by Evolanguage in Germany.

The courses put a special focus on specialist vocabulary, but also on the ability to fill out forms and write reports. These programs are designed at different levels and with different learning methods such as role -playing games and practical everyday situations.
