Unknown people hit patrol cars with a chain - police investigated!
on May 10, 2025, around 8:30 p.m., an alarming incident on Trierer Strasse, in front of the main entrance of the Europagalerie in Saarbrücken. A previously unknown person hit a heavy object, presumably a chain of a bicycle lock, on a parked police car. So far, the background of this action is unclear whether it was a targeted attack or the person may have been in a mental state of emotion.
Following the incident, the police blocked the area around the patrol car and carried out a crime scene recording, which lasted until around 9:30 p.m. The patrol car had considerable damage, including partially destroyed windows, and had to be towed. The police have currently not published any information about possible injuries or to arrest the alleged perpetrator. An official statement is still pending, but further information is expected on Sunday. During the recording, the Trierer Straße was only passable, which led to the passers-by to recognizable shock about the alleged act, as [Blue Light Report Saarland] reported.
new patrol car for the police
In another context, the police in Saarland are better positioned with new technologies and vehicles. In a recently carried out project, new radio patrol cars with an impressive performance of 286 hp and all -wheel drive were presented. Interior Minister Roger Lewentz (SPD) presented the vehicles that are specially designed for use on motorways and expressways. These combination cars reach top speeds of up to 250 km/h and accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in only 5.6 seconds. Around 30 of these vehicles are expected to be obtained by 2024, which replace the previous fleet of the motorway police, as [ZEIT] reports.
The new patrol cars are not only powerful, but also modern. They offer space for additional equipment such as handheld radio devices as well as fastening and charging options for cell phones and tablets. This initiative aims to increase the security of the police officers who work in the often risky surroundings of the highways. The responsible bodies do not currently want to disclose the exact costs for the vehicles.
Current security situation in Germany
A look at the current security situation in Germany, underpinned by the results of the Skid project (security and crime in Germany), illustrates the context in which these incidents take place. The study shows that 13.5 % of the respondents have been victims of cybercrime in the past 12 months, while the prevalence rate of theft offenses is 12.1 %. The emotional burdens according to violent offenses are often higher than with property offenses. According to the survey, younger people are more often affected by such offenses, which can influence the feeling of security in society.
The residents in Germany mostly evaluate police work positively, but there are also concerns: Around 25 % of the population say that they trust the police. The fact that the feeling of security in public transport is pronounced in less than 50 % of the population is particularly worrying, as extensive analyzes are carried out as part of the ski project ( bka ).
