Finally again bridge wedding: connection between Breitfurt and Wolfersheim!

The connection between the villages of Wolfersheim and Breitfurt will be restored on February 28, 2025 with a solemn “bridge wedding” at 10 a.m. Many citizens of both locations took part in the event, which marks the end of a long and often arduous process to renew an important pedestrian and cyclist bridge over the blew. The old bridge, which was built between 1941 and 1943, was blocked in 2008 and has since been a symbol of lost traffic connections and burst hopes.

The construction work for the new bridge was anything but easy. Complications when transporting the 30 meter long and 12 -ton aluminum bridge led to traffic disruptions. A heavy transport got stuck in a narrow junction in Bliesdalheim, which had to move a heavy -duty crane to Bliesdalheim. On the eve of the event, some components were already brought to the construction site with a heavy load transporter.

According to the Breitfurt City Councilor Guido Freidinger, many residents of the two places had become skeptical after over ten years of the long waiting period. However, the completion of the bridge is not only regarded as a necessary infrastructure project, but also as a new step towards a better connection and increased quality of life for the citizens. In the future, the bridge will act as a modern and flood -friendly connection and close an important gap in the existing cycle path network.

The construction process itself was shaped by intensive planning. Despite multiple failed financing attempts, including a "bridge demo" in 2009, which attracted over 200 participants, the bridge was finally financed with the support of the federal and state governments. The federal government took over 75 % of the costs, the country increased the proportion to 90 %, but Blieskastel had to bear a share of almost 100,000 euros.

After the clearing work that had to wait for a vegetation phase, the actual construction work began in August 2023. At the end of August 2024, the old bridge was demolished, followed by concrete work for the new building. In December 2023 and April 2024, the tenders for the demolition and new construction work were granted.

The new bridge creates a walk -in and bicycle -friendly connection, which is seen as a significant step for the living together of the neighboring communities. At the "bridge wedding", a large number of representatives from politics, administration and construction will also be present in order to celebrate this symbolic moment together with the population. Citizens are invited to gather on the Breitfurt side of the bridge to experience this historic moment.

The implementation of this construction project is the final part of a multi -layered history of hopes and challenges that had been shaped by the years of waiting for the bridge renovation. While the old bridge belongs to the past, the new bridge has the potential to act as a new symbol of progress and the solidarity between Wolfersheim and Breitfurt.
