Big return: Medieval market celebrates comeback on the Kirkeler Castle!
The municipality of Kirkel is facing a special event. On Sunday, May 4, 2025, the new extension to the Kirkeler Burg will be ceremoniously opened. This construction work, which is associated with costs of around two million euros, receives a subsidy of 95 percent from the Saarland Ministry of Economic Affairs. The new access will not only make access to the castle easier, but also ensure that the security requirements for major events are now being met.
An important aspect of this measure is the influence on the medieval market, which takes place on the following weekend, May 17th and 18th, after six years at the Kirkeler Castle. Previously, the market had been returned by the nature outdoor pool in Kirkel due to the lack of security specifications. Thanks to the new access, the market now receives the necessary security and can revive in its traditional place in the third week of May.
