Strikkwelle in Cologne: Garbage disposal stands still from March 12th to 15th!
In Cologne, the strike kennel in the public service is expanding. From March 12, the waste management company (AWB), which supervises garbage disposal, street cleaning, workshop, warehouse, administration, recycling center and the container service. The union Verdi calls up the employees until March 15, 2025 for all-day warning strikes. The background is the demands of the employees after a salary increase of 8 % or at least 350 euros more per month. This is also supported by Verdi by claims for higher surcharges, three additional free days and more time sovereignty.
According to Verdi, employers have not yet made a specific offer. Tjark Sauer, Managing Director of Verdi Köln-Bonn-Leverkusen, expresses a lack of understanding of the lack of accommodation of employers and calls for a constructive basis for discussion. The next round of negotiations will take place in Potsdam from March 14th to 17th and is crucial for the further course of the collective bargaining.
The situation in the public service
The strikes are part of a large faith conflict in the public service that recently won the journey in the last week of February. According to T-Online , tens of thousands of employees have laid out their work. In the past week alone, around 45,000 people went on strike nationwide, which underlines the urgency of the demands.
Christine Behle, the deputy chair of Derdi, criticized the lack of appreciation by the employer. Most recently, demonstrations in Cologne with around 2,000 participants at the Cologne Neumarkt also took place to draw attention to the situation. Other warning strikes are in preparation in all federal states, and the appointments will be announced shortly.
claims of the employees
The demands of Verdi affect not only the increase in salary, but also structural improvements in the public service. The specific concerns also include:
- higher surcharges for stressful shift work.
- three additional free days.
- a "my time account" for more time sovereignty.
These measures are intended to increase the attractiveness of jobs in the public service and help to combat the lack of personnel. An agreement between the negotiating partners is classified as very unlikely, especially since there are no offers from the employers.
The negotiations are not only important for current employees, but should also be transferable to civil servants, judges, soldiers and supply recipients. After the third round of negotiations, it could have far -reaching effects on more than 2.5 million employees in the public service.
The situation remains tense and the unions are ready to further increase their pressure on employers in order to enforce their claims.
