Stricter controls in Neuwied: E-scooter violations in focus!

On January 20, 2025, comprehensive controls of e-scooters took place in the city center of Neuwied and compliance with the passage ban in the pedestrian zone. These measures were carried out by the police and aimed to clarify the population about the usage rules of e-scooters and to get into conversation directly with road users. In a period of four hours, between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m., a total of eight violations were found and punished accordingly. This is reported by the ADAC

regulations and fines for e-scooter

Current legislation stipulates that e-scooter drivers on a green arrow for cyclists can also turn in red light and have to use cycle paths, provided that there is an obligation to use. Driving on sidewalks and in pedestrian zones is only allowed at walking speed if the corresponding additional signs allow this. Future new regulations that are expected to come into force in April 2025 should continue to regulate the use of e-scooters. In addition, the introduction of indicators and a technical separation of front and back brake is required for newly approved e-scooters.

The fines for violations are already specified: Anyone who drives through the traffic lights must expect a fine of 60 to 180 euros at red. Driving on the highway costs 20 euros, while driving without an operating license is punished with 70 euros. These regulations should help increase traffic safety and to improve the acceptance of e-scooters in road traffic.

The outlook on 2025

The year 2025 is considered a crucial year for electromobility and especially for e-scooter use in Germany. There are extensive legal adjustments that will also include new technical standards and legal requirements. These developments are a reaction to the increasing number of accidents and the increasing discussions about environmental protection and legal uncertainties caused by the spread of e-scooters, so Scooterhelden .

In addition, there are plans to focus on sustainability and to switch the production of e-scooters to recyclable materials. The introduction of new labeling and registration obligations is also part of the planned reforms. These measures aim to consolidate the E-Scooter market and create clear framework conditions that help the municipalities to better control use.

The controls in Neuwied are an example of the efforts of the authorities to make the use of e-scooters safer and to regulate traffic in the city center. A close cooperation between the municipalities, drivers and the rental companies will be necessary to successfully cope with the challenges that the use of e-scooters brings with it and to establish e-scooters as sustainable means of transportation.
