This year more than 70 visitors could be counted, including 41 adults and 12 children. In particular, there were employees of daycare centers and parents on site who thought about a possible school admission. Therapists and teachers were also interested in the support school concept of the facility.

the importance of inclusion

The "Day of the Open Classroom" is also in the context of school inclusion in Germany, a topic that has been continuously examined since the UN Convention on the Rights of Disabilities came into force in 2009. Despite positive developments, there are still many challenges. Studies show that the implementation of school inclusion is often slow, with considerable differences between the federal states.

In an investigation by the Bavarian Teacher Association, 97 percent of the teachers surveyed stated that the inclusion under the current framework conditions were not feasible. Teachers often feel left alone because there is a lack of personnel, temporal resources and further training courses. The challenges with which schools are confronted affect not only inclusion, but also the general support of students with special needs.

The high number of visitors and the positive mood in the "Day of the Open Classroom" are, however, encouraging signals. It turns out that the exchange between the pedagogical and therapeutic specialists is constantly optimized on site, which benefits the entire school community.
