variety in dance sport
dance sport in Germany is a multifaceted discipline that can be divided into width, tournament and competitive sport. Both individuals as well as couples and formations that show their skills are eligible to participate. In Germany, around 2,000 dance sports clubs are organized in the German Dance Sports Association, whereby the World Dance Sport Federation (WDSF) is considered the largest association of amateur dance sports associations. Preference competitions are also held here, in which standard and Latin dances are in focus.
The popular Latin American dances include Samba, Cha-Cha-Cha, Rumba, Paso Doble and Jive. The standard dances include tango, slow and Wiener Waltz, Foxtrot, Slowfox and Quickstep. In addition to these classic dances, interested parties in dance schools and clubs can also learn newer dance forms such as rock’n’roll, boogie-woogie, oriental dance and hip-hop, such as the Ortsdienst.de describes in detail.
cultural heritage of dance
The dance has a rich story that is documented by various materials and objects. Dance archives keep notebooks, program booklets, photos, films, posters and much more. These materials make a decisive contribution to understanding dance history and artistic work in dance. The digital atlas dance was started with the aim of promoting access to dance in its historical, aesthetic and interdisciplinary development.
The umbrella organization dance Germany took over the materials of the digital atlas dance from the Academy of the Arts in 2018 to present the cultural heritage of dance and contemporary dance. Information about the relaunch of this platform will be provided in the near future. For further details, the website dance archive.de is a useful contact point, as in the Dachverband dance mentioned.
