Conversion of Göllheimer Straße: Controversy in Cerzenheim!

The state company Mobility (LBM) recently announced plans to convert the L452 in Göllheimer Straße in Kerzenheim into community road. This decision should come into force on January 1, 2026 and already raises questions and concerns among the residents. The local community of Kerzenheim is actively involved in the discussion because many citizens have expressed their distrust of this conversion. Lothar Görg from the CDU asked himself the questions of the citizens in a public session and expressed his view on this topic.

The Göllheimer Straße, an important connection in the region, runs through Cando Home and comprises a total of 63 known buildings that are provided with house numbers. This street is not only a mere traffic artery, but also a central part of social life in Cando Home. The well-known addresses include the SPD local association at Göllheimer Straße 54 and the “Rad Rech” shop in Göllheimer Straße 50, which offers bicycles and accessories. The road section also has an important microlage because it is only 2.1 km from the center in Eisenberg.

concerns of the residents

The residents of Göllheimer Straße have expressed various concerns about the planned conversion. Trust in local government is not undisputed, and many citizens fear that the conversion of the L452 into a municipal road could have a negative impact on the infrastructure and the condition of the street. Göllheimer Straße has different speed limits that vary between 50 km/h and 100 km/h, which already causes confusion. An optimal traffic concept seems necessary to ensure security on the street.

In addition, the condition of other traffic routes in Germany is an issue that should not be overlooked in this context. According to a study carried out on behalf of the main association of the German construction industry and other organizations, there is a significant need for investment in the German transport network. In order to renovate the ailing infrastructure and ensure more climate protection, an amount of around 372 billion euros will be required by 2030. This problem could also affect Cerzenheim if the existing concerns about the conversion should not be taken seriously.

Further information on infrastructure

In Germany, the total length of the streets is almost 714,000 km. At the same time, the results of the study show that over a third of the streets, including municipal roads, have larger defects. This could represent additional challenges for the conversion of Göllheimer Straße and reinforce the citizens in their skepticism.

It remains to be seen how the discussion about the planned conversion will develop. The voices of the residents are characterized by a legitimate interest in a functioning and secure traffic infrastructure in their home community. The local community of Cerzenheim will still have to deal with the LBM and the concerns of the citizens in order to find the best possible solution for everyone involved.

The coming months will be crucial to clarify the situation and create trust. The conversion of Göllheimer Straße will remain a topic that will employ both administration and the citizens.
