high crime rates in 2023
Such raids are not isolated, but part of a larger trend of the increasing crime rates in Germany. According to the Police crime statistics 2023 from 5,628,584 cases in 2022 to 5,940,667 cases in 2023. These have been the highest number of cases since 2016. The clearance rate was 58.4 %, which means a moderate increase.
crime researchers attribute the increase to three main factors: the increased mobility after the loss of COVID-19 restrictions, economic and social stress, in particular through inflation, and a high immigration rate. In addition, 2,246,767 suspects were recorded in 2023, which corresponds to an increase of 7.3 % compared to the previous year. It is particularly alarming that 34.4 % of these suspects were non -German citizens and violent crime has reached a maximum since 2007
a worrying trend
The increase in raids on kiosks and similar business is therefore part of a more comprehensive trend of the increased violent crime. Shopping steels, for example, rose by 23.6 % and burglary theft recorded an increase of 18.1 %. These numbers arouse and illustrate the need for increased prevention and security measures for traders.
The police and crime statisticians face the challenge of analyzing this worrying trend and taking suitable measures. In view of the growing danger that such raids represent, witness information is of the greatest importance for the investigation.
