Storm weekend threatens: supercells, hail and tornadoes in sight!
The weather in Germany is facing a dramatic weekend that could affect many of us. Starting today, Saturday, May 31, meteorologists are announcing extreme weather phenomena ranging from severe thunderstorms to potential tornadoes. Loud Picture warns meteorologist Jan Schenk that the atmosphere is in an unstable state, which favors the formation of supercells. This not only leads to strong thunderstorm activity, but also dangerous weather conditions.
The coming days will be characterized by intense thunderstorms. The first severe thunderstorms can be expected from Saturday afternoon in the regions of North Rhine-Westphalia, Hesse and Thuringia. These storms move across the country from west to east, as do the HNA reported. These thunderstorms can bring heavy rain of up to 30 liters per square meter, hail with diameters of up to 3 cm and severe storms including gusts of up to 75 km/h.
Forewarning and dangers
The danger of tornadoes is particularly acute and is highest between Frankfurt, Nuremberg and Leipzig from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Torrential rainfall of over 40 liters per square meter is possible, which could lead to flooded streets, full basements and massive traffic disruptions. These warnings should be taken seriously as the situation can be particularly dangerous for campers, hikers and people who spend a lot of time outdoors.
The weather situation remains tense on the night of Sunday, June 1st. Loud Focus Thunderstorms can continue to occur, in fact the entire weather situation remains unpredictable, while the thunderstorms are gradually moving to the east of Germany.
Weather developments and events
On Monday, June 2nd, the thunderstorm situation remains tense, especially in southern Germany. Calm weather is forecast for the north, although short, heavy thunderstorms are also possible there. A gradual calming down is not expected until the middle of the week, but the risk of locally extreme weather events remains high.
However, there is a small ray of hope for fans of the Champions League final in Munich this evening: temperatures could be around 25 degrees, and a mix of sun and clouds will make for quite pleasant weather. Nevertheless, the current weather situation across Germany remains an issue that will keep people on their toes.
Given these extreme weather conditions, everyone is advised to regularly check weather forecasts and prepare accordingly. Be careful and protect yourself from possible storm damage!
