Traffic discipline in East Hesse: Positive balance sheet after speed marathon!

On April 11, 2025, the police headquarters East Hesse draws a positive balance of the European Speedmarathon. During the use of the speed, around 44,500 vehicles were checked at 27 measuring points in three East Hessian counties. Chief Police Commissioner Carsten Sippel, head of the Fulda regional transport service, praises road users for their discipline, since only 1,061 of them, which corresponds to 2.4 percent, drove too quickly. This shows a remarkable understanding of the citizens for the need for speed controls.

As part of this initiative, worrying knowledge about extreme speed overruns were also collected. Six road users were particularly negative. Two drivers were measured on a federal road with a speed limit of 100 km/h with exceeded 68 and 74 km/h. Another driver drove too fast on the highway at 179 km/h and 79 km/h, while another reached 129 km/h in a construction site area with a speed limit of 80 km/h. The measurement of a driver who was caught in a 30 zone at 65 instead of the permitted speed was particularly shocking.

fines and security consequences

The consequences of these speed violations are considerable. According to the nationwide catalog of fines, fines of over 700 euros and a three -month driving ban are possible with a speed crossing of 70 km/h, supplemented by two points in Flensburg. OS inthurers are not only punished for speed violations, but can also have serious consequences for traffic safety. Sippel emphasizes that speed reduction can reduce the number of victims by 15 percent and explains the dramatic difference in the chances of survival of pedestrians at different speeds.

In the current traffic safety situation, fines and points for speed violations are clearly regulated in urban areas and outside. The amount, which is due in the event of an in -depth exceeding of 21 to 25 km/h, is 115 euros, for example, while the costs for an extraordinary exceeding in the same category are 100 euros. These regulations are part of the updated catalog of fines, which has been in force since November 2021 and aims to increase traffic safety.

Overall, the measures of the police during the speed marathon are not only designed for the collection of speed violations, but also to sharpen the awareness of responsible driving. The catalog of fines itself is continuously updated in order to enable adjustments in Germany as part of the traffic policy of the federal states. For example, in Bavaria there is particularly strictly against speed violations.

The monitoring of the speed will continue to be reinforced in the future to ensure that road users comply with the applicable speed restrictions. The recommended guide speed on motorways of 130 km/h is particularly important, even if there are no speed restrictions on some sections of the route. Ultimately, it is about ensuring the safety of all road users and avoiding accidents.
