Traffic transition in Herxheim: street conversion for more security!
In Herxheim there are significant changes in the transport network. In July 2024, the transfer of several streets became final, which has far -reaching effects on traffic management and security in the town center. The upper and lower main streets were graded as municipal roads, while the town of South-West and sections of Hatzenbühler Straße and St. Christophorusstraße were classified to the state road. State roads are intended for through traffic, while municipal roads are primarily used for local traffic, the Rheinpfalz .
This rededication is the result of lengthy considerations and negotiations, which were already included in 2011, based on a traffic investigation. However, a technical assessment of the street infrastructure in 2014 showed a number load of around 1.1 million euros for the local community, a burden that would have been intolerable for residents due to recurring expansion contributions.

This further reduced the financial burden, so that the final number load was reduced to around 107,000 euros.
A particularly important element of the planning is the implementation of a full traffic light system at the Niederhohlstraße, Obere/Untere Hauptstraße and Leonhard-Peters-Straße. As a result, those responsible hope to have a significant improvement in traffic safety in the town center of Herxheim. The previous plans have already been well advanced, so that implementation will be sought by the end of 2025.
