Vulkan bakers get talents from abroad against a shortage of skilled workers!
In the fight against the ongoing shortage of skilled workers in the bakery trade, the volcanic baker Joachim Haas from Schotten is active for the training of international specialists. The company currently has 100 employees, including people from different nations such as Turkey, Poland, Eritrea and Pakistan. Haas has recognized that the integration of these employees not only benefits the company, but also to society.
The personnel requirements in the craft have increased sharply. The craft suffers from a significant shortage of skilled workers, which is caused by demographic developments and a change in values in society. Despite the importance of the craft for the German economy, with 560,400 companies and around 5.4 million employees in 2020, the need for qualified workers remains consistently high. The Federal Office for Statistics estimates that 12.1 to 12.5 percent in Germany are active in the craft. predicts that 12.5 million workers will retire by 2036.
integration through training
In his bakery, Joachim Haas has already taken concrete measures to counteract the lack of specialists. He contacted an agency in Stuttgart that mediates young people from Morocco. One example is the Moroccan trainee Hicham Zaim, who has been working in the company for a year and has already had good knowledge of German. The training takes place once or twice a week in Gießen, which further supports integration. On April 1st, four female trainees from Morocco will also be welcomed in the company.
The willingness to integrate is not only a necessity for Haas, but also an opportunity. Due to the close cooperation with the Schotten family and youth center, the language courses are organized, the integration of the new employees is promoted. This makes the future of the craft for many companies more exciting because young people from abroad bring new perspectives and ideas.
challenges in craft
The challenges for the craft are great. According to the Deutsche Handwerks Zeitung , every third craft profession is part of the bottleneck professions, whereby the deficiency in areas such as construction electricity and car technology is largest. Over 80 percent of the jobs in these disciplines are difficult to fill. Training positions in the craft remain vacant; In the 2023 training year, many heads of handicrafts found no suitable applicant for every seventh training position.
In addition, the mastery obligation makes the independence of migrants in the craft. Studies show that the proportion of migrants could be up to 18 percent higher among founders without mastery. It is evident that without the contribution performance of migrants, as in Haas' operated, the number of trainees in the 2021 craft would have been around 50,000 lower.
The combination of demographic challenges and the requirements of the new generation creates personnel finding in the craft sector into a complex task that requires short -term solutions such as the integration of international specialists, as well as long -term strategies for improving working conditions and professional development.
