Wake -up commitment: Wiehl honors Gerhard Altz for 48 years of politics!
On April 25, 2025, Gerhard Altz, one of the formative personalities of the Wiehler City Council, celebrated his 75th birthday. On the occasion of his persistent commitment in local politics, Mayor Ulrich Stücker was honored for his 48-year-old political career. Altz, who entered the city council of Wiehl in 1984, is one of the longest -serving local politicians in the Oberberg district and leaves an impressive footprint in regional development.

Gerhard Altz’s commitment was not only limited to the presence in the city council. Altz received numerous awards for his merits, including the Golden Wiehltaler for 25 years in the city council in 2009 and the Dr. Johann-Christian-Eberle Medal in 2020.
In addition to his political work, Altz worked as a teacher at the Hugo Kükelhaus school in Oberbantenberg for over 25 years, where he celebrated his 40th anniversary in 2009. Gerhard Altz has two daughters, Angela and Martina, as well as five grandchildren. He is happy about the close relationship with his family, but regrets that the political commitment is often at the expense of the family. After his retirement in 2007, he continued to be involved in various clubs and plans to remain active as a knowledgeable citizen in the school committee until 2025.
Although Altz experienced burnout due to his numerous responsibilities in his 90s, he never thought of changing his political conviction. While he does not quite exclude a possible candidacy in the coming years, studying philosophy, which he wanted to record five years ago, remains an unfulfilled wish. With his lifelong experience and commitment, Alt remains a central figure in politics and the community of Wiehl.
