Election campaign in the cold: rising risk of poverty for children and pensioners!

In the run -up to the Bundestag election on February 23, the parties in Hilden and Haan prepare for their election campaign. The deadlines for the submission of election proposals are set, whereby the district election proposals have to be submitted by January 20. The election campaign takes place under winter conditions, which also makes it difficult to mobilize voters.

DIE LINKE has already nominated its candidate for the southern district (Mettmann I): Klaus Wockenfoth, who is active as a marketing manager and father of two children. Wockenfoth expressed clear concerns about growing poverty, especially among children and pensioners. He predicts that around four million children will live in poverty by 2030 and demands a determined policy to combat socio -economic differences. From Tuesday, January 28th, postal voting can finally be requested.

election behavior under low -income persons

Despite the ongoing preparations for election, there is a worrying trend: people who live in poverty rarely choose than better. According to current information, around 14 million people in Germany are considered poor, which corresponds to less than 60 percent of the middle net income. This leads to a high poverty rate in Germany, which was slightly reduced, but still remains alarming.

Studies show that political issues that affect the reality of poor people are often not on the political agenda. The resignation of many affected people means that they do not participate in elections because they believe that nothing will change in their situation. A report by Deutschlandfunk Nova emphasizes that the turnout is significantly lower in poorer parts of the city and constituencies, which further restricts the political participation of these groups. These people often do not see their problems as political, although many of them are influenced directly by political decisions.
