Election study 2025: Greens and left-wing points at LSBTIQ*voters!

The current election study on the Bundestag election 2025, which was created by political scientists from the Justus Liebig University in Gießen in cooperation with the lesbian and gay association Germany (LSVD), gives an insight into the election behavior of the LSBTIQ*community in Germany. This third study of this kind shows the specific preferences and challenges of the community, which are characterized by the lack of representative data on sexual identity and orientation in traditional election surveys. According to estimates, there are between 1.8 and 3 million LGBTIQ*person who is entitled to vote, but precise figures are often unclear because there are no state surveys. Class = "Source_1"> Men.Media reported by 6,320 participants who have been taken into account for the most extensive study of this kind worldwide.

The results of the study show a clear preference for Bündnis 90/The Greens with 43.5 % of the vote, followed by the left, which reaches 24.9 %. The SPD is on the back with 7.2 %, CDU/CSU with 3.3 %, volt with 3 %, AfD with 2.8 %and FDP with 2 %. This development is particularly noteworthy, since compared to the election study of 2021 all parties have lost support except the left, whereby the SPD recorded the strongest decline.

demographic differences and election behavior

An important aspect of the study are the demographic differences in the electorate. Younger voters under the age of 30 tend to tend to the left, while the Greens are strongest in the 40- to 49-year-olds. Older voters tend tend to tend to the SPD and CDU/CSU. Regional differences are also striking: the left in East Germany has greater consent, while the Greens in the West dominate. LSVD emphasizes that a high voter hike is also shown and parties like the FDP and Greens record the most loyal voters.

The content of the parties play a crucial role in the election decision. LSBTIQ*-friendly policies are particularly important for the voters of left, Greens and Volt. A large majority of respondents, 93.3 %, support the Self -Determination Act, while topics such as education policy, health policy and the fight against discrimination are of central importance for many. Differences are also shown in the electorate: Lesbians mostly choose the Greens and the left, while gay men show a higher preference for the SPD, CDU/CSU, AfD and FDP. Queere people, bisexuals and transpersonen, especially transmembers, tend to the left.

social issues and the future outlook

The social context is of crucial importance in the current study. The increase in queer hostility and violence against LGBTIQ* is alarming. Political demands on the restriction of rights make the visibility and representation in the company a central challenge. DetailsQuellen
