Election behavior of the queer: parties and their surprising preferences!
On February 7, 2025, a wide range of studies illuminate the election behavior of the LGBTIQ*community in Germany, in particular with regard to the Bundestag election 2021. According to a current analysis, which was published by Differences in voter behavior between gay men and lesbian women.
A survey that was carried out between July 15, 2021 and four weeks later refers to the political preferences in this segment of society. It is particularly striking that gay men who participated in the survey choose more conservative parties such as the SPD, CDU/CSU, FDP and AfD. In contrast, lesbian women, with 52.5 percent, tend to the Greens and the Left Party.
preferences of voters
The voting decision of trans people also shows a clear tendency to the left party, which is preferred by 49.8 percent of this group. The results of the analysis are in the context of a broader LGBTIQ*election study, which scientists of the Justus-liebig-Universität (JLU) Lesbian and gay association (LSVD) is carried out.
In the study, which is carried out anonymously and without storing personal data, the economic situation of many queer people is also pointed out. A common reason to choose conservative parties is the perception of economic development. Dorothée de Nève emphasizes that the gender Pay Gap could play a role in the election decisions. The economic challenges, especially for trans people who are often faced with precarious situations, thus influence their political orientation.
context and objective of the study
This comprehensive analysis is placed in a context in which similar surveys have been carried out regularly since 2015 in order to gain valuable insights for political debates and election research. The results of the current study are to be published in mid-August 2021 and promise to offer new impulses for the political discussions about the LGBTIQ*topics.
The findings of this investigation not only contribute to better insight into the political preferences of the LGBTIQ*community in Germany, but also illustrate the need to add more economic challenges to the political agenda.
