Forest renovation on the Silbersberg: cost explosion and future questions!

in Gloggnitz, more precisely on the Silbersberg, the forest renovation faces major challenges. According to a report by noen.at , the costs for the renovation amount to around 5.7 million euros. These measures are carried out in three construction stages: First, a rockfall protection nest including a forest road is created, followed by measures for forest fire prevention and forestry measures. The entire renovation will extend over at least ten years.

Mayor René Blum, member of the list "We for Gloggnitz", commented on the condition of the forest. The financing for the renovation takes place from various sources: the country promotes 15 percent, the federal government pays a maximum of 60 percent of the costs. The remaining expenses are covered by a contribution to interest between landowners and residents. However, the exact procedure for the renovation remains unclear what a residual meeting was already taking place in December.

cost increase and protective measures

In addition to the renovation measures already mentioned, the Silbersberg settlement in Gloggnitz is at risk of stone. The planned length of a protective network is 2,000 meters, but the costs for the construction of 3.5 million euros have risen to around 5.7 million euros. This means that the protective function of the Silbersberg forest is no longer available for the settlement, such as meinzirk.at

Mayor René Blum received the detailed costs for the protective measure. A forest road must be created for the construction of the protective network, whereby the approval of the landowners is necessary. The more forest road can be built, the cheaper the construction of the network will fail. Otherwise, a helicopter could be necessary for the transport of the materials, which would further increase the costs. Christian Amberger from the torrent and avalanche construction explained that the cost increases are due to an expanded project scope and additional requirements. The project is handled as part of a funding program, with the majority of the costs of being borne by the Republic of Austria and the state of Lower Austria. Around 80 residents are affected by the protective measures, and an information event on the project is planned for November 25th in the city hall.
