Change in Vreden: Johanniter take over the rescue station - what is behind it?
With a change of operator on June 30, 2025, the rescue station Vreden will be under the sponsorship of the Johanniter-Accident Aid (JUH) from this date. The district committee of the Borken district committee made this decision on March 13, 2025 and hands over the responsibility from the previous operator, the DRK district association Borken. The change of operator takes place as part of a standard tender procedure, since the contract with the DRK expires.
According to a press release from the Borken district, this change has no effect on the scope of services or the location of the rescue station. The Johanniter, as a non -profit organization, have many years of experience in the emergency services. This allows the citizens of Vreden to trust a high level of emergency services, as the Verdi union also determines in view of the situation.
quality concerns for changing providers
Not all voices are positive. Experts warn of possible negative effects that could have the frequent change of providers on the quality of the rescue service. In Düsseldorf there were efforts to establish private emergency services that met with criticism. Verdi expresses concerns that private providers work in a profit -oriented manner and thus influence the quality of emergency care.
In order to illuminate this topic, the Johanniter-Accident Aid demands extensive reforms in the field of emergency care. A draft law on the reform, which was sent to JUH on June 7, 2024, includes important regulations, but there are also critical voices. Thomas Mähnert, member of the Federal Executive Board of the JUH, emphasizes the need for a sustainable planning of this reform and the coupling of the demand planning in the emergency services to hospital planning.
challenges in the emergency services
The German interdisciplinary association for intensive and emergency medicine (DIVI) has also called for a comprehensive reform of the emergency services. In a position paper published on January 17, 2025, central challenges such as a shortage of skilled workers and demographic change are addressed. Suggestions to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the emergency services include clear indications of use and the reduction of misconceptions.
In addition, the divi paper aims to further develop emergency paramedics: to drive in the inside and to expand their tasks without medical presence. These endings and demands draw an image of an emergency services that are based on the needs of the population and have to work with modern methods and technologies.
Overall, the reform of emergency care will not only be a decisive challenge for Vreden, but for all of Germany. The new management of the rescue station by the Johanniter could be a step in the right direction, even if the connection and continuity of the services will remain of the greatest importance for all citizens.
