White quarters in transition: CDU suggests radical redesign!

The renovation of the white district area in Landau has recently come into the focus of the public discussion after the CDU working group Bauen & Mobility has submitted a concept proposal. Bernhard Allmann, the chairman of the working group, makes it clear that the proposal should not be implemented immediately. Rather, the Initiative aims at a medium or long-term solution. The background is the upcoming decision on a possible replacement for the one -way street regulation between the white district area and Gloria, in which the CDU would like to counteract a potential solution in advance that could endanger the implementation of its proposal.

The design provides for a redesign of the square, which also includes a partial blocking of two streets. In addition, a game road regulation is sought to redirect traffic across the larger parking lot. However, the specific catalog of measures still has to be worked out and refined in detail. The SPD and the FWG have been surprised by the time the plans were published, which causes additional confusion in the political landscape.

Details on the traffic situation

An essential aspect of the project affects the traffic situation at the white district square. The city council recently lifted the existing one-way regulation (white district/reduit-street) in order to achieve a reduction in traffic by 40 percent. In this context, the CDU working group has developed a counter -proposal for the redesign of the white district area, which is directed against the measures provided by the city administration such as road narrowing and bottom thresholds. According to the CDU, these changes would lead to a loss of valuable parking spaces and, in their view, are not in the interests of the residents.

The CDU proposal includes a fundamental conversion of the square with a travel-ordered access as a passage. The parking spaces should be expanded until residential buildings, with a new arrangement in a transverse set -up. The absorbing sidewalks are to be compensated for by a game road regulation, which could create additional parking facilities. This proposed parking space is also to be equipped with infiltration -capable covering to increase the quality of stay.

Current number of parking space and ratings

According to the current figures, a total of 22 parking spaces are available in Reduit- and Weißquartierstraße. There are 104 regular parking spaces and 16 residents' parking spaces on the white district area. According to the CDU, the redesign could possibly even increase the number of parking spaces compared to the status quo without having to accept a loss. The proposal was classified as implementable by an intensive exchange as part of the "Mit -talking" participation program.

The discussion about the traffic situation and the planned conversions shows how important municipal planning is for the quality of life and mobility of the residents. The next chapter in the development of the white district area remains to be seen, while different groups clarify their point of view.
