Wörth in the cultural struggle: 49,000 euros are missing for the cultural program!

In the cultural budget of the city of Wörth, a worrying picture is emerging: According to the current forecasts, 49,000 euros are missing for the cultural program in the next two years. This message was published by rheinpalz.de and showed the existing financial bottlenecks in the cultural budget. Planned income for the years 2025 and 2026 of only 125,000 euros is compared to expenditure of 174,000 euros, which illustrates the need for changes in financing.

Stephanie Quint, the responsible person in the cultural sector, informed the Committee on Culture, Social Affairs, Sports and Clubs about this critical financial situation. However, the allocations from the country, which were planned for the years 2023 and 2024, were actually 35,000 euros for the years 2023 and 2024. In contrast, the plans for sponsorship funds from savings banks and private companies see a significant discrepancy: only 4.050 euros were received from the savings banks in 2023 and no funds in 2024. In private companies, the actual income remained behind the expectations, with only 7,500 euros in 2023 and zero euros in 2024.

reserves in cultural funding

In contrast, positive numbers can be recorded in the entrance fees. 70,598 euros for 2023 and 85,118 euros for 2024, which is above the plans of 60,000 euros each. Overall, the total revenue exceeded the plans: over 117,000 euros in 2023 and over 120,000 euros in 2024. Nevertheless, the cultural budget is behind the possibilities; The expenses for artists' fees and material requirements amounted to 169,000 euros, which led to a minus of 54,000 euros.

In the committee, the necessary measures were discussed intensively to close the financing gap. Klaus Ritter from the CDU emphasized the urgency of gaining sponsors more active. The goal is to keep the deficit below 20,000 euros. Nevertheless, it became clear that cost savings are inevitable; The summer program is to take place in 2023, but the summer stage will not be continued for financial reasons.

Federal Cultural Fund and Redesigns

Deutschlandfunkkultur.de there are only 18 million euros available for the six Federal Cultural Fund, which corresponds to a drastic decline compared to the 34.3 million euros in 2023.

These cuts affect the free scene in particular, with an estimated loss of around 10 million euros in performing art. In addition, it is expected that the planned deletion of all grants for the Alliance of international production houses could have serious consequences. Minister of Culture Claudia Roth defended the revoration of the cultural budget, but increased the concerns about the effects of these cuts on cultural diversity in the federal states

Resistance forms in the cultural scene; A petition initiated by director Heinrich Horwitz has collected over 36,000 signatures and calls for the reduction plans. The criticism extends over various institutions, including the art fund and regional culture council foundation, which shows significant concerns about future financial support and the cultural infrastructure in Germany.
