Wolfsburg breaks Gladbach's hope: 5: 1 clap at the start of the year!

In a one-sided game of the Bundesliga, VfL Wolfsburg won 5-1 against Borussia Mönchengladbach on January 16, 2025. The game took place in the arena in front of 20,500 spectators. Already in the 3rd minute Wolfsburg managed the early lead with a penalty from Jonas Wind. A foul by Julian Weigl to Bence Dardai noticed before the execution, which Hannover's referee Florian Badstübner made.

After a first half in which Gladbach dominated, but did not score a goal, the Wolfsburgers increased their pressure in the second half. In the 60th minute after a pass of wind, Joakim Mæhle made 2: 0. Maximilian Arnold scored 3-0 in the 75th minute. Lukas Nmecha shone with a double pack in the 84th and 87th minute, whereby the fourth goal was prepared by assistant Wimmer and the fifth of Mæhle. Before the game, both coaches made some adjustments. Wolfsburg coach Ralph Hasenhüttl took into account the suspended Tiago Tomás, for whom Jakub Kamiński slipped into the starting eleven. On the other hand, Gladbach's Gerardo Seoane Tim Kleindienst issued due to gastrointestinal complaints. Instead, Tomáš Čvančara got the chance from the start.

Although Gladbach had some chances in the first half and fought for more possession, it was the effective offensive of Wolfsburg that decided the game. Kamil Grabara, Wolfsburg's goalkeeper, held decisive shots from Gladbach, which mainly from Alassane Pléa and Marcus Thuram.

With this victory, Wolfsburg improves to 27 points and temporarily climbs to the 6th place in the league. Gladbach, on the other hand, stays on 24 points and slips to 11th place after they suffered the second defeat in 2025. The next challenge for Wolfsburg is due to an away game against Bayern Munich, while Gladbach welcomes Bayer Leverkusen the next match day.

Joakim Mæhle was recognized as a player of the game for his outstanding performance in this game. The game also had some statistical remarkable aspects to offer, including the pass efficiency of Mohamed Amoura (WOB) and the number of printing situation on Alassane Pléa (BMG).
