Future of the beef mill: rumors about new gastronomy!

The area of the beef mill in Linden, which has been empty for around 20 years, keeps causing new discussions. In the past few weeks there have been activities on the property that triggered speculation about a possible catering settlement. According to the information from Giessener General has been confirmed by an employee. In the past, the residents had complained about the overgrown state of the site, which extends over 3700 square meters.

The mayor of Linden, Fabian Wedemann, made it clear that no building application was received by the city. While the clean -up work improve the condition of the beef mill, the future of the historical property remains uncertain. In connection with the Rindsmühle, which goes back to the 14th century, Giessener Anzeiger New Year's Eve 2017 suffered a roof truss fire, the damage of which is still visible.

history of the beef mill

The beef mill has a moving story. From 1907 to 1977 the restaurant "Zur Rindsmühle" operated a lively company there. She was known in the village as a popular meeting place for hikers and the village youth. In 1967 the restaurant closed, but continued to operate by various tenants until August 1977. After the closure, the building served as a transition home for mentally ill people from 1977 to 1998. A conversion between 2000 and 2003 converted the beef mill into a retirement home, which, however, registered bankruptcy due to financial problems and was finally closed.

The area around the beef is by nature and is always at the center of discussions. In October 2016, the SPD had suggested a new kindergarten building, which, however, took place without consultation with the owner. In addition, several birches were removed after the roof structure fire because they no longer met the necessary safety requirements. The future of the building therefore remains uncertain to this day, which Hans Jürgen Zahradnik, who died in 2021, addressed in a lecture on the history of the beef mill. The plans and ideas for using the property vary again and again, although even the idea of a nature reserve around the beef mill is often perceived as a joke.

In summary, it can be said that the beef mill is a place with rich history, the future of which remains unclear. The property has experienced many facets through various uses, from gastronomy to care to the retirement home. The current clean -up work seems to bring a positive development towards more order, but whether this will lead to a new use remains to be seen.
