Köster Holding buys traditional company Wacker Bau
Family business invests in its presence on the Upper Rhine and sets the course for the future
As part of its growth course, the Osnabrück-based Köster Group is investing in the acquisition of the traditional Wacker construction company from Offenburg. With this step, Köster is strengthening its presence in Baden-Württemberg and securing a sustainable perspective for one of the most important construction companies in southwest Germany.
The Köster GmbH With around 2,000 employees at over 20 locations, is one of the largest owner-managed family businesses in the German construction industry. The Wacker company, founded in 1874 and now run by the fifth generation, currently employs around 100 people. The company acts as a general contractor in turnkey residential and commercial construction, shell construction and project development. Most recently, Wacker realized projects such as the new Edeka Südwest headquarters and the Sevdesk headquarters in Offenburg.
Independence and regional strength
As with previous acquisitions, Köster is relying on continuity: Wacker will remain as an independent company within the Köster Group and will continue to serve the market between Karlsruhe and Freiburg under the established name. All jobs remain secured. Nils Köster, CEO and shareholder of Köster Holding SE, said about the acquisition: "Wacker is a strong company with an excellent team. There are many parallels between our companies. As an owner-managed family business, we share values such as reliability, appreciation and the joy of high-quality work. We are very pleased to be able to continue the life's work of the Wacker family together and to significantly expand our capacities in the Baden region."
Synergies for large projects and sustainability
Nico Wacker sees the merger as a position of strength: "Our order books are well filled. By joining Köster, we will be able to draw on the extensive know-how in the future in order to successfully manage increasingly larger and more complex projects." The strategic location on the Upper Rhine, combined with the expertise of the Köster Group, offers ideal conditions to meet the increasing need for efficient and sustainable building solutions in the region. The takeover is currently subject to approval by the Federal Cartel Office. It was agreed not to disclose the purchase price.
