Tilebigband rocks Diezer Kalkwerk: two places in the state competition!
On January 23, 2025, the Diez Kalkwerk turned into a pulsating jazz center when the Tilebig band appeared there. The event started at 5:17 p.m. and attracted a fully occupied hall that spread a typical jazz cellar atmosphere. Despite the fact that only professional jazz bands usually play there last Friday of the month, the Tilebig band appeared unscheduled. The event was the qualification of the band for the final round of the prestigious state competition "Youth Jazzt". This unique opportunity was made possible by her music teacher and band leader Sebastian Fröhlich.
The competition, which is organized by the State Music Council in cooperation with the HR Bigband, took place on January 19, 2025 in the HR station hall. On this day, the young bands were on stage to present their skills in front of an expert audience. In an exciting final, the Lio Bigband of the Justus Liebig School Darmstadt won and thus not only secured a cash prize, but also the opportunity to take part in the Teutonic Orchestra competition in Wiesbaden in June.
results of the competition
The Tilebig band took second place and was praised for their "very good soloists and excellent feeling of rhythm". The IKS Swing Kids from Rüsselsheim, who achieved third place, impressed the jury with its "great joy and variable program". The three final participants had previously qualified in the State Music Academy of Schlitz in June 2024.

All appearances were recorded for a later radio show, which also offers the participants a platform for their music.
meaning of the competitions
The Hessian School Big Band competition, which has been taking place every two years since 2004, offers young talents the opportunity to exchange and learn with professional jazz musicians. This integrative approach not only promotes the musical skills of the participants, but also provides you with valuable experience for your future musical career.
Overall, the appearance of the Tilebigband in the Diezer Kalkwerk and the performance in the competition made it clear that the youth can meet high expectations in the jazz area. The event in the lime unit was not only a rich experience for the musicians, but also an experience for the audience who was allowed to experience the talents up close.
