Kassel, Fulda and Gießen: Hesse's ordnance clearing service cleans up!
In Hesse, over 60 tons of ammunition from the Second World War were recovered in Hesse. The Hessian ordnance clearance service, responsible for the rescue and neutralization of ammunition, has made this amount harmless. This number corresponds to the long -term average after over 100 tons were found in the previous year. Among the types of ammunition discovered are infantry shot, grenades, mines and 17 bombs of different types.
In the case of non -transportable ammunition, over 90 explosions had to be carried out. Significant finds have been reported in different cities in the past two months. A 50 kg flying bomb was defused in Kassel, which affected about 2,600 people. A bomb had to be blown up in Fulda, which affected around 1,500 people. 1,200 people were evacuated in Gießen when a 50 kg of heavy duds was defused.

A larger evacuation took place in Wiesbaden in April 2024 when a 500 kg of heavy dud was discovered, which affected about 10,000 people.
