Fulda: urban development strengthens social cohesion in the southend!
The Fuldaer Südend is included in the urban development program "Social Cohesion", reports Fuldaer Zeitung . This program, which was previously known as "Social City", aims to strengthen districts like the southend that faces special challenges. In this context, the quality of living is improved and a comprehensive concept for social integration is developed.
In the construction committee there was already important information about the next steps. City building council Daniel Schreiner and Lilith Stukenberg, head of the urban development department, reported that initially an "integrated urban development concept" (ISEK) should be created before specific projects are addressed. The funding area is expected to comprise 60.9 hectares and extends from Martin-Luther-Platz in the north to Ronsbach in the south, as well as from the Fulda Canal in the west to Edelzeller Strasse in the east.
fields of action for the new concept
The area covers a large part of the district, but is not identical to the statistical district "Südend". Fulda has already gained experience in urban development, for example in the districts of Aschenberg, Ziehers-Süd/Ostend and Nordend. The fields of action of the ISEK are diverse and include:
- neighborly coexistence
- Integration and inclusion
- open spaces and climate protection
- local supply and general interest
- Sustainable mobility
- Local economy
- image and security
Special attention is paid to the possible use of the former Teknos site between Edelzeller and Donaustraße, which is available with an area of 1.4 hectares after the manufacturer of coating systems is closed in 2023. This area could serve as a location for a district center.
Financial means and participation of the citizens
The new funding program, which was launched in 2020, provides 200 million euros in federal financial aid every year to stabilize and upgrade disadvantaged districts such as the Fuldaer southend. The first individual measures can be applied for in 2026 at the earliest, with the last funding application expected to be submitted in 2035. However, the amount of the financial resources for the ten -year funding period remains unclear because it depends on the annual subsidies of the federal government.
Around 2,800 citizens should be actively involved in the process. The “social cohesion” program also aims to strengthen the integration of all population groups and the cohesion in the neighborhood. A central concern are the improvement of the quality of living and life as well as the upgrading of the living environment, as in Städebaufoerung.info .
In a comprehensive approach, existing projects and resources are to be bundled in order to ensure long -term constantation of successful measures beyond the funding period. This program is an important step towards better integration of disadvantaged groups and to increase the quality of life in Fulda.
